Composer and pianist, born in Botucatu, Brazil, in 1980. His Meditations
have been premiered in Indonesia in 2008 (Yogyakarta and Jakarta by New
Zealand pianist Ross Carey). The same performer played his Book of butterflies at the National University of Singapore. His Acquamarine was premiered in 2005 at the 5th International Music Festival in Chile by Chilean pianist Paulette Schwarz.
He
studied Composition at Campinas State University under the guidance of
Denise Garcia, José Augusto Mannis, Alexandre Pascoal and Sílvio
Ferraz. He pursues now a Master degree studying the work of Estonian
composer Arvo Pärt.
Most
of his works are written for his instrument, the piano. They're
intimately linked to his playing. Not hard to play, they seek to
explore the piano's sonorities mixing atonality and modality. Some of his works privilege one of these worlds.
Atmosphere
is meditative, comtemplative, mysterious. Among his influences are the
works of Claude Debussy, Arvo Pärt, Olivier Messiaen, Morton Feldman and Anton von
Webern. He's also influenced by Gregorian chant, other liturgical
chants and minimalism and postminimalism.
He
also enjoys writing sacred music in traditional language as well as
folksongs from his imaginary country, the Empire of Svolonesia.
Having
started to have piano lessons with his mother at age 8, he soon began
his composition attempts. At the age of 10 he got to meet Brazilian
composer Mikhail Malt, who lives now in France, with whom he had
classes for some months, in a remarkable experience.
He
has for years played in several venues playing his own music as well as
the music of his colleagues, both as soloist and in chamber music works.
He
now plays with flutist Cláudia Guedes as well as with local choir
Madrigal Cantabilis, with concerts in several towns of the state.
